Inferior Quality Safety Goggles Unable to Prevent Eye Accident - Comments Off
Ian Pearson, a steel erector, had injured his eye in December 2005 at a worksite in the Wembley football stadium. While he was hitting a steel pin in a round gap, a portion of galvanized covering just separated and entered into his eye as he was not wearing suitable safety glasses. It was later discovered that Pearson’s eye had suffered a lasting injury that meant unclear vision for the rest of his life.

Fast Track Site services, his employer and the now defunct company that previously had its office at Walsall, agreed to have an out of court settlement and paid him £6,500 as damage money after admitting to their mistake of not providing the right safety eyewear.
Laura Hadfield of Thompsons Solicitors observed that this type of accident was preventable with the right eye gear and because of his employer’s carelessness Pearson would have to deal with long lasting problems in his eye. She felt that had Fast Track Site services given the correct eyewear to Pearson, his eyes would have remained safe from such an accident.
